Paintings by Columbus Artist Curtis Goldstein On Display at Port Columbus

COLUMBUS—The work of Columbus artist Curtis Goldstein is now on display in the Port Columbus Gateway to The Arts, an exhibit space located on the ticketing level in the hallway behind Cup O’ Joe.

Port Columbus Gateway to The Arts is a collaboration between the Columbus Regional Airport Authority and the Ohio Art League, which is a non-profit visual arts organization that coordinates the rotating exhibits on a quarterly basis.

“My paintings are not about the arrangement of cityscape subjects or the depiction of heroic landmarks, but instead the careful placement of the viewer,” explained Goldstein. “By positioning viewers at a busy intersection, a dark alley or on a rooftop, they are confronted with the question “Where am I?“ and by elevating everyday subject matter to art one must reevaluate its significance. I want people to contemplate why and how they live the way they do, and to ask themselves what is the balance of choice and necessity in their daily lives.”

Goldstein is from Columbus and is a graduate of the Ohio State University. He has received commendations from the Ohio House of Representatives for his public murals throughout the Midwest that depict the history or reflect the culture of their respective communities. Listed in numerous public and private collections, Goldstein was one of 16 artists in the state of Ohio who were included in “Here And Beyond: Ohio Art League’s 100th Anniversary Exhibition.” In 2009, he appeared on the nationally televised CBS Early Show in which he created a street painting during the live broadcast. Also in 2009 Goldstein was nominated for the Ohio Governor’s Award for the Arts. Visit www.curtisgoldstein.blogspot.com to see his paintings, and www.art4folks.blogspot.com to see his public murals.

In addition to Port Columbus Gateway to The Arts, the airport also offers rotating and permanent art pieces created by artists ranging from local elementary students to the internationally-recognized Roy Lichtenstein. Standing 26-feet tall at the entranceway to Concourse B, “Brushstrokes in Flight” is a dynamic sculpture by the late Lichtenstein, an alumnus of The Ohio State University.
